One person at a time
I'm guilty. Like you, I love to count my eggs before the hatch. Just the sniff of a sale is enough for me to dream of spending future income at the Porsche dealership on a 911.
Most entrepreneurs I've met experience this early on. I call it the "dreamer dilemma." It's where your dream distracts you from doing the necessary grunt work consistently because it feels like a chore. What's the result? You don't achieve your goals because you get distracted and lose interest.
There's a version of you that could've taken things one step at a time to achieve your goal. We can't skip stages, no matter how menial they feel. That's how you lose momentum.
Those focused on delivering value one customer at a time earn momentum. Momentum is the multiplier needed to achieve big things.
It sounds counterintuitive? But, we should focus on not dreaming as entrepreneurs. It's a distraction.
I'm practicing keeping it simple. Each day is an opportunity to focus on getting one customer a day. Eventually, I'll get to think about two, three, and more. That day isn't here yet, and thinking about what systems it'll take is intellectual porn. It's procrastination, not progress.
